Drawing and Printmaking in Digital Art Animation

My current art project explores printmaking, drawing and digital animation. I utilize different print media and drawing processes to produce images which exist in two formats: 1. two-dimensional works on paper (prints and drawings), which, when completed, are digitally morphed into 2. an animated film. Student involved in this project will assist with various aspect of creating the work.  Each print/drawing begins as a collection of dissimilar images. In the initial stage, a preparatory drawings, photographic collages and digital montages are integrated and altered using Photoshop software. In this respect, the notion of drawing, both in hand-executed form on paper and digitally merged in electronic format, is a means to establish visual narrative. The final image is thus a combination of modern technology and traditional art tools. The second aspect of this project is developed through analog and digital animation. The finished works are scanned and turned into an animation at the University of Michigan Duderstadt Center on North Campus.
